The Initiative fights for the truth, justice, accountability, equality, freedom, democracy and peace. We encourage the process of dealing with the past, continuous co-operation of the states and people in the region, and we educate young people about the heritage of war.

As part of the 20th Festival of International Student Theater (FIST 2025), the Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR) supported a youth-led public debate on one of Serbia’s most pressing issues — the EXPO 2027 project. His ability to network, explain the challenges, and identify effective solutions to enhance youth engagement in promoting democracy and human rights were the main qualities that brought together a group of young people, first in Serbia and then in Kosovo, Bosnia, Croatia, and Montenegro
Thanks to the Initiative, I had the opportunity to talk to the ordinary people about what war crimes trials were, how they took place in Serbia, what were the similarities and differences between trials before the courts in Serbia and trials before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. To actually travel with the Initiative not only throughout Serbia but the entire region of the former Yugoslavia and thus disseminate knowledge or information about how the legal system in Serbia worked. It was an amazing opportunity
YIHR helped me realize that there is a whole new planet of good, honest and brave people with civic values. As the Initiative grew, one by one, wonderful colleagues and human beings came into my life.
YIHR has strengthened my belief that I fight for a goal that affects change in the community’s life. I carry this with me wherever I go. It has taught me to face failures boldly. That means learning to look at what’s happening with a clear head, not only in your own country but everywhere in the Region
